    Slanted reporting is when an article puts itself forward as informative and unopinionated, but will only cover what they want the reader to know or believe about the subject. Recently, the Biden Administration has been trying to pass a student loan forgiveness act which is very controversial. The article, Supreme Court Met With Rally Amid Student Loan Forgiveness Hearings, is slanted toward student loan forgiveness, because it talks about all the advantages that would come from student loan forgiveness. While the article, Supreme Court Skeptical of Biden’s Student Loan Cancellation Plan, is slanted against student loan forgiveness. The article, Supreme Court Met With Rally Amid Student Loan Forgiveness Hearings, talks about how students are struggling to afford college and housing. It also writes about how the student loan forgiveness plan will help students to be able to succeed in life. While, the article, Supreme Court Skeptical of Biden’s Student Loan Cancellation Plan, argues that forgiving billions of dollars worth of student debt is both outside the power of the Biden Administration and against the law. Each article is written about student loan forgiveness but from different perspectives.

    The articles cover a lot of information on the sides that they support but do not include much information that disagrees with their position. The article, Supreme Court Met With Rally Amid Student Loan Forgiveness Hearings, which is for the student loan forgiveness does not talk about where the money to cover the student loan debt is coming from. While, the article, Supreme Court Skeptical of Biden’s Student Loan Cancellation Plan, does not talk about the benefits to those who are helped by the forgiveness of the debt. It talks about how it is not within the power of the Biden Administration to relieve the debt. Writing an article that does not completely acknowledge both sides of an argument makes the author of the article look disrespectful to the opposing side and makes them less credible as an author.

    Writing with a slant makes the writer look less credible and reliable. Readers need to remain aware that there are articles out there that are not giving them the full story. Becoming aware of the fact that not all articles are objective and include verifiable information is an important step in being able to find articles that are reliable and informative.
